Old San Juan Waterfront
The history of San Juan and its neighbors is inextricably linked to port and maritime functions. As far back as early 1,500’s, the original settlement of San Juan functioned as a gateway to the Américas. Once a neglected industrial port, now the city has reclaimed the waterfront. F&FA proposal features strong connectivity elements between vehicular, pedestrian and maritime transit. A waterfront promenade is the main feature among a series of public spaces that bring vitality to a new old city. Urban waterfront development involves building a new meaning and identity for a place that has experienced decline and is undergoing transformation.
